Information about the electric mobility cluster

The Light Electric Mobility Cluster is Creating New Opportunities

The country’s first collaborative network for light electric mobility companies has begun operations in South Savo. The pioneers already involved are jointly developing new emission-free ways to move in everyday life and during leisure time. The group of innovators is continuously growing.

The cluster develops innovations related to emission-free mobility and creates new business opportunities. Participating companies develop and manufacture new products, provide services, and engage in contract manufacturing. At the same time, they are building extensive collaboration networks both domestically and internationally. Research and development organizations involved provide valuable knowledge to support the efforts. You can find more information about the companies on the “cluster companies” tab. [Link to this]

Cluster Funding

The light electric mobility cluster project, coordinated by the Mikkeli Development Company Miksei, is funded by the South Savo Ely Centre. The project is mapping out other companies interested in the theme in addition to the current leading companies. The goal is to have at least 15 companies involved, with no upper limit.

The cluster project aims to develop the industry’s business and create a model for collaborative development. Companies are also offered opportunities to network regionally, nationally, and internationally. To accelerate the internationalization of the companies, the project seeks to obtain the EU-authorized Bronze Label cluster status for the cluster companies.

Why Does the Project Exist?

The movement of goods and people is undergoing a green transformation in Finland, Europe, and worldwide. Emission-free electric mobility will increasingly replace other forms of transportation, including leisure activities. Nature and tourists will soon value odorless and noiseless movement, which is set to become the new normal.

A key catalyst for the project was the launch of an electric boat factory in the winter of 2023. This factory introduced the first affordable and energy-efficient planing hull boat series, primarily targeting the USA and Central European markets.

Mikkeli has also established an electric snowmobile factory and battery production facility to meet the needs of both previously mentioned areas. The industry’s companies are eager to collaborate and expand their networks to solidify and further develop their operations.

What Does the Project Do?

The project aims to establish the South Savo Electric Mobility Cluster, which will promote emission-free light mobility business locally, nationally, and internationally. In economics, a cluster refers to geographical concentrations of companies and organizations from interrelated industries and other relevant actors that play a significant role in competition.

The cluster concept is based on the idea that an organization can benefit itself and the entire network through its connections. The participants may be from different fields or located elsewhere, but they can still find common ground to benefit from the collaboration and achieve synergies.

It’s essential to note that the cluster may also include competing organizations, which must be considered for collaboration.
