Mikkeli’s Summer Opening to Feature Modern Electric Vehicles at the Market Square

The Mikkeli Summer Opening event will showcase locally developed and manufactured electric vehicles at the Market Square on Saturday, June 7. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore these innovations inside a tent set up for the event.
The strong cluster for light electric mobility that has emerged in Mikkeli in recent years will present several highlights, including the Valkama electric boat, Aurora Powertrains’ electric snowmobile, and VivaJets’ electric jet ski.

Valkama’s electric boat factory manufactures affordable, energy-efficient planing hull boats, particularly aimed at Central European markets.
Aurora Powertrains’ electric snowmobile factory and battery production, based in Mikkeli, also benefit other companies in the cluster.
“Not many residents of Mikkeli likely realize the scale at which electric vehicles are being manufactured here. At the moment, we have a surprising number of pioneering companies in Mikkeli developing products and services for electric mobility. This is a great opportunity to see the products and talk directly with the experts behind them,” says

Marjo Niittuaho-Nastolin from the Mikkeli Development Company Miksei Oy, who is responsible for establishing the cluster and supporting business development.
Cluster companies will be handing out sunflower seeds to visitors at the event tent. Additionally, Puuni Oy, which plants trees on unused land, will donate spruce saplings. Local company Polkupyörä Etappi will showcase its latest electric bicycle models.
A representative from LUT University will also be at the tent to present their research and product development activities.

“We’ll have an exceptionally diverse showcase of expertise from the light electric mobility cluster at the Summer Opening event in the Market Square. You’ll also have the chance to speak with the developers in person, so don’t miss it. See you at the square!”
Other companies in the cluster include Ams Corporation Oy, which develops remotely controlled vehicles, eLyly Oy, a manufacturer of electric snow scooters, and Arctic Rides Oy, which produces electric kicksleds.

The South Savo Electric Mobility Cluster has developed a networked working model that brings together a wide group of experts from companies, educational institutions, the research community, and public organizations. The companies in the field are genuinely committed to collaboration and strengthening the network.

The main implementer of the cluster project is Mikkeli Development Company Miksei Oy. The project began in February 2024 and will conclude at the end of July this year. The Electric Mobility Cluster project promotes collaboration between businesses, educational institutions, research organizations, and public bodies. It is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), with financing granted by the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (ELY Centre) for South Savo.
